Next OPA Monthly Meeting Details: Mark March 11 for the next OPA meeting. Guests include Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur, School Superintendent Dr. Antonio Shelton, and someone from the Office of Emergency Management. See you there! 

OPA Happy Hour: It was great to get together with more than 50 community members last week at Lula’s for our first happy hour of the year. Next happy hour is planned for April 25. Mark your calendars now!

OPA Letter in SaMo Daily Press: We published this letter last week in an effort to drive more awareness of OPA and share our goals, values, etc. with the broader SaMo community.  

SMCLC Letter Re: Gelson’s Project: “Santa Monica Coalition for a Livable City (“SMCLC”) is a nonprofit, all volunteer group of Santa Monica residents concerned about unsustainable commercial development.” They are collecting signatures for an open letter to the developers of the Lincoln Center @ Lincoln & Ocean Park Blvds. regarding its size and scope. Noon Wednesday is the deadline to sign on to the letter. More details here.

March 5th Primary Election Voting Info:

The Street Seen – Winter on Main Street: This week’s write-up offers updates on openings, closings, etc. all along the street.

Triple Beam Pizza Update: The much anticipated Nancy Silverton pie shop is gearing up to finally open in late March or early April at 2905 Main St. They are hiring too and are having a job fair this Friday & Saturday (March 1 & 2) from 11am – 4pm a few doors down at Vamos Vamos. House of Pies @ Lincoln & Venice Blvds. Hoping to Open in September: This SaMo Mirror report states developers are planning to restart work even though “For About a Year, the Development’s Construction Has Seemingly Been Inactive.” We’ll believe it when we see it. 

Community Invited to March 2 Community Solutions Summit on Citywide Equity Plan: The event will feature community feedback results, info about city programs, grant info session, & community advocacy session. More details & RSVP here.

Nominations Open for SaMo Most Loved 2024: Click here to nominate your favorite businesses in a variety categories. Voting is open through this Thursday, Feb. 29.

Things To Do This Week: 

  • Pistachio Eating Championship (Monday 11am): Monday is World Pistachio Day (because why not?) and LA Chargers linebacker Joey Bosa tackles World Champion Competitive Eater Joey Chestnut and other Major League Eating’s top competitors at Pacific Park for another world-record attempt at cracking pistachios.   • Santa Monica Democratic Club Meeting (Wednesday 7pm): Agenda includes Public Safety Reform and Oversight Commission Chair Derek Devermont hosting California Senator Steven Bradford’s Legislative Director Christopher Morales, author of SB50, a state bill regarding pretextual stops by police officers; and SaMo Councilmember Jesse Zwick moderating a panel addressing the topic of mobility within our community. @ Thelma Terry Center (2200 Virginia Avenue) and via Zoom.
