OPA Update: Details on OPA February 12 Meeting, SaMo Becomes a “Prohousing” Community, & Things To Do This Week

OPA Feb. 12 Monthly Meeting Next Monday: This month’s meeting will be at the Beach House CoWork (2219 Main St. @ Strand) starting with food and mingling at 6:15pm. We will also be hybrid on Zoom. Here is the Zoom link to join the meeting starting at 7:00pm. Here’s the draft agenda and here’s schedule:

  • 6:15 – 7:00pm: Food, refreshments and mingling
  • 7:00 – 7:15pm: SMPD update
  • 7:15 – 7:45pm: Phil Brock, Mayor
  • 7:45 – 8:30: Board business including electing 2024 Exec Board, determining key 2024 priorities, and more!

Muir/SMASH Campus Update on Water Intrusion Project: SMMUSD sent us this update on “Project Progress for Interior Demolition and Mold removal, Termite Treatment, & Approval of Plans.”

SaMo Becomes a “Prohousing” Community: Gov. Gavin Newsom said “We need to aggressively build more housing to support Californians. Prohousing cities move to the front of the line when it comes to incentives, funding and other state resources,” said Newsom in the announcement. “It’s critical for more communities to join in this distinction and build their fair share of housing.” More details here

Smorgasburg Vendor to Open Kava Nectar Bar in Ocean Park: Kava Nectar Is Made from Natural Roots of the Kava Plant. Kavahana, a permanent vendor at well-known food event Smorgasburg, will hold the grand opening for its inaugural retail location at 306 Pico Blvd. (the old Vidiots space) which it describes as the first-of-its-kind “kava nectar bar.” The grand opening event will take place on Feb. 10 from Noon to 11 p.m. More details here.

Staff and volunteers can assist with reading, writing, and technology related tasks.
