Housing Town Hall: Join the City Planning Division for a Town Hall on new housing development regulations. The City will be hosting two separate events to allow broad participation, one virtually on Oct. 30, and another in person in the Council Chambers on Nov. 8.   • Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda: Visit the Main Library Youth Services department daily through Nov. 4 to contribute to an ofrenda, a traditional altar, to celebrating life and death. Feel free to bring something to contribute like paper flowers, photos, or drawings of deceased loved ones. More details here.
  • SMC Glass Pumpkin Sale (Thursday 10am – 2pm): SMC’s annual Glass Pumpkin Sales are a fun opportunity to buy handcrafted glass pumpkins. “Each pumpkin is a truly unique work of art that can enhance fall-season home and office decor, as well as satisfy holiday and year-round gift needs.   • SaMo Public Library Hosts Office Hours with LA Law Library Legal Resource Specialist (Thursday, 2 – 6 p.m.): More details here on the monthly offering.
  • Free Documentary Screening of ‘Flashpoint: Protest, Policing, and the Press’ & panel Q&A (Friday 6:00 – 7:30p.m.): The film features the stories of several journalists who were assaulted or arrested while reporting at protests and explores the conflict and tension experienced on the front lines, the changing role of the press, and the hardening of attitudes among the police towards journalists. @ SMC Center for Media & Design Auditorium, 1660 Stewart St.
  • American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk (Saturday 8 a.m.): This is a celebration of courage and hope, a movement uniting communities to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone. For three decades, these 3- to 5-mile non-competitive walks have collectively grown into the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement – providing a supportive community for courageous breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer thrivers, caregivers, and families alike.   • City Hosting FREE “Repair Cafe”: “Bring things that need fixing, donations for repairs, and used items for give-away, clothing swaps, and craft tables. Repair stations may include: bikes, small appliances, electronics, jewelry, guitar stringing (bring your own set of strings), gluing, and clothing.” More details here.
