ABOUT THE FILM:

Written and directed by Mark Alan Hoffman and starring Richard Blackmon in a breakout lead role, A SIMPLE MACHINE is a coming-of-age story about Nick Allander, a recent college graduate who makes a series of radical choices to get himself out of debt – without being able to tell the woman he loves what he’s up to.It’s also a story about the financial and emotional freedom a bicycle can offer.Shot in luminous black and white in Portland, Oregon by award-winning cinematographer Kevin Fletcher, with an original score by Mark Orton, the film has won multiple Audience Awards at festivals across the country. At a time of economic uncertainty, housing instability, and digital saturation, A Simple Machine offers a grounded counterpoint: What might we gain by choosing to live with less?
