Santa Monica High School is proud to announce its presentation of the iconic play, Lord of the Flies, directed by Kate Barraza, Nov. 6-15, 2026.
When a group of young students becomes stranded on a deserted island, they struggle to maintain civilization without adults to guide them. What begins as a story of survival and friendship quickly descends into a dark exploration of human behavior and the breakdown of social order.
Dystopian storytelling at its finest, William Golding’s Lord of the Flies is one of the most studied novels in the English literature canon, and the stage adaptation by Nigel Williams transforms the contemplative novel into an energetic, gripping theatrical piece. Samohi Theatre’s 33 talented actors and 38 student theater technicians present this suspenseful, riveting tale in 90 minutes of no-intermission, heart-stopping action, with an inventive, multilevel set and stunning special effects that help transport you to a deserted island’s all-too-human spiral into chaos and desperation.
“Our students were ready to take on an intense drama, so Lord of the Flies was the perfect choice for this year’s fall production,” said Barraza. “It’s one of those challenging plays that requires a thoughtful approach to get right.”
