Eyes on the Street: Bikeway Construction on Broadway at 6th Street

Date:

Via reader Eli Gill comes this picture, taken earlier this morning, of construction of the Broadway protected bikeway at its intersection with 6th Street.

The City of Santa Monica is implementing the Broadway Safety Project, which includes upgrading Broadway with protected bike lanes from 5th to 26th Streets, new crosswalks, traffic calming features, and improved pedestrian signage. This aims to make Broadway safer and more accessible for people walking, biking, using scooters, transit, and driving.

Paving and protected bike lane work began January 2026 along segments between Ocean Avenue and 9th Street and will continue eastward through mid-April 2026. Sidewalk replacement is also ongoing along Broadway and adjacent downtown streets.
