Santa Monica College (SMC) presentsthe SMC Jazz Ensemble in a live concert on Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Music Hall at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street(at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica.

Led by conductor Frederick Keith Fiddmont, the accomplished musical group will explore “The Masters,” a program featuring music that highlights the genius of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Herbie Hancock.

“Duke Ellington once said, ‘A problem is a chance for (us) to do our best,’” said Conductor Fiddmont. “In these challenging times, musicians are sometimes given the opportunity to rise up against the tumult and produce profound beauty.”

The special guest performer for the evening is baritone saxophonist Adam Schroeder.

The Los Angeles-based musician is rapidly becoming a major force throughout the global jazz scene. Schroeder is known equally for his studious leadership as for his musicality in Anthony Wilson’s Nonet (Los Angeles), the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Bennie Wallace’s Nonet (New York), the Clark Terry Big Band (New York), and the Adam Schroeder Quartet/Quintet.

Tickets are $10 general admission (plus a modest service charge); free for all students with any student I.D.
