  1. A Safe, Smart Transportation System
We introduced Transit Safety Officers on high-traffic routes and bus stops, ensuring a safe and welcoming experience for Big Blue Bus riders. Their presence reflects our commitment to creating a transit system that prioritizes comfort and security. We also delivered new protected bike lanes for users of all ages and abilities and enhanced parking facilities with security cameras and additional patrols to keep you safe.
  2. Expanding Sustainable Transportation Options
We introduced 19 battery electric buses into service, expanded bike lanes by nearly four miles, and implemented new EV charging stations across the city. These investments reduce emissions, simplify travel and promote a sustainable and connected community.
  3. Bringing the Community Together
DOT played a key role in Open Streets events and neighborhood block parties, transforming our roadways into vibrant gathering spaces with dining, music and family-friendly activities. These events foster community connections and boost local businesses.
  4. Supporting the People Behind the Progress
This year, we recognized the incredible team that powers DOT every day. From ensuring efficient operations to implementing innovative projects, our dedicated staff is at the core of everything we achieve. Our efforts are bolstered by collaboration with partners across the city, including the Santa Monica Police Department, Department of Public Works and countless community members.
  5. Looking Ahead to the Future
We’re gearing up for an exciting year ahead, with plans to introduce a new shared mobility provider, expand e-bike options, enhance pedestrian safety through sidewalk improvements and prepare for the megaevents coming to Southern California.
