SaMo Water Recycling Facility Captures Over 50 Million Gallons from Runoff, Wins Awards: “The Sustainable Water Infrastructure Project, or the SWIP, marks two years in operation producing purified water from municipal wastewater and having captured over 50 million gallons of stormwater and urban runoff for reuse. The SWIP was recognized nationally and internationally earlier this year as the National Water Environment Federation’s Project Excellence Award winner and the Global Water Award’s 2024 Distinction Award for Water Reuse Project of the Year.” More details here.

SaMo Safe Streets project named Best of the Year: The Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association, or APWA, announced its B.E.S.T. Project of the Year award winners, with the city of Santa Monica’s Safe Streets for 17th Street and Michigan Avenue project winning in the transportation category. More details here.

LA Times Reviews Orla, Michael Mina’s New SaMo Restaurant: This review states “the celebrity chef’s interpretation of his Egyptian heritage weaves these and other aromatics into kebab platters, tableside baklava sundaes, charcoal-grilled octopus, caviar-topped fateer and chicken-stuffed dolmas with an ocean view in the Regent Santa Monica Beach hotel.” 1700 Ocean Ave.

Office of Traffic Safety Awards $300,000 Grant to SMPD for Traffic Enforcement Program to Increase Safety on Roads: The Santa Monica Police Department announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support its ongoing enforcement and education programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on our roads. The grant program runs through September 2025. More details here.
