‘Roots of Resilience’ Ocean Park Tree-Planting Initiative Needs Community Input: In last week’s post about this, we forgot to include this link to the survey. To recap, OPA member Anya Baroff was recently awarded a microgrant to plant trees here in Ocean Park “to support community cohesion and collaboration.” Her effort is receiving ongoing city-wide support for planting an inaugural tree for the 150th anniversary of Santa Monica and is currently in the seed-stage of community engagement to promote & sustain a unified Santa Monica! Any & all community feedback would be appreciated in this environmental effort. Click here to email Anya about it either with planting suggestions or to help. Click here to read more details in a SaMo Patch article on the effort. Thanks again Anya!!
City to Streamline Building Permitting Process: “For decades, Santa Monica has been notorious for delays that snarl building projects in red tape — from renovating a home to remodeling a storefront to constructing a building. That is expected to change after the City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to move ahead with an initiative that will provide ‘an updated, streamlined and comprehensive online system to secure building permits,’ City officials said.” More details here.City Council Moves Ahead to Establish a Permanent Shared Mobility Device Program: “During the last full calendar year, Spin and Veo were used on over 600,000 trips….A motion…to reject all bids for ‘contracted ‘shared mobility service providers and continue with a permit-based program with select revisions…passed unanimously 7-0….” More details here.
SaMo Conservancy Launches Ocean Park Neighborhood Initiative: This SMDP article details the “new initiative to engage the community in a program of events, neighborhood walks, garden tours, open houses events and community meetings. The aim is that these programs will spotlight local culture and history for neighbors and visitors to Ocean Park and beyond.”
The Street Seen: Don’t Stow Stones 2402 2nd Street @ Hollister Ave: “Three carved limestone blocks on the southwest corner of 2nd Street & Hollister are all that remains of a pile of stones, originally from Europe, stored in the 1960s in the parking area behind 2401 Main St.” Read more here.
