Santa Monica Celebrates First Climate Fest. Free Event Tomorrow!

Date:

This post is a combination of several promotional materials put together by Climate Action Santa Monica.

Santa Monica is hosting its first ever ClimateFest, an all-day community engagement event geared for adults and children on May 19 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. A full schedule of events can be found at the bottom of this email.

Co-produced by the City in partnership with Climate Action Santa Monica (CASM) at St. Monica’s Campus across the street from Reed Park the event will build on the Santa Monica Climate Summit of October 2016.  The goal is to bring community members together, to inspire residents and businesses and provide them with knowledge and resources to be sustainability change agents.

The panoply of offerings include a schedule of speakers (Keynote is Felicia Marcus, Head of all California Water Boards), breakout discussions, workshops, interactive activities, awesome bicycle hub, green organizations, EV Ride and Drives and free raffle and drawings. Attendees will peruse the schedule and design and curate their own personal ClimateFest experience as they are challenged to choose from feast of possible activities.

ClimateFest is a free community event though registration is requested and required to receive free raffle and meal tickets.www.climatefestsm.eventbrite.com

“ClimateFest strives to flip the often typical climate change narrative of ‘doom and gloom’ to present climate as something to learn about, engage with, celebrate and honor, and feel empowered to positively impact.  In addition to the choir, our hope is to attract people from across the community who don’t normally go to “Climate Summits,” commented Laura Gillette, CASM Steering Committee member.

Many people in this category acknowledge the man-made climate crisis, but just haven’t quite figured out their relationship to it and what changes they can and are willing to make in their lives to help mitigate its effects.”

Climate Action Santa Monica (CASM) Co-Chair Cris Gutierrez added, “We wish to make it an easy ‘yes’ for people of all stripes to attend ClimateFest, and to engage and learn how anyone can have positive impact by changing a few daily habits.”

Below is a  schedule to help you navigate it all.  It’s family friendly for those with kids and childcare is available as well.  http://climatefestsm.eventbrite.com
