On Monday, May 29th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Santa Monica’s historic Woodlawn Cemetery, Mausoleum & Mortuary will host the City’s 79th annual observance of Memorial Day.
Presented by a consortium of local charitable and service-oriented organizations, this year’s event features a Condor Squadron military flyover, musical performances by the John Adams Middle School Choir and the Santa Monica Oceanaires, and a special Woodlawn exhibit from students of the Santa Monica College Photography Department. View the Commemorative Wall which honors Santa Monica’s war veterans who lost their lives while serving our country.
Enjoy crafts and other activities for children following the ceremony. Food from The Tasty Truck and ice cream from The S’cream Truck will be available for purchase.
This year’s keynote speaker is Santa Monica College Police Sergeant Jere Romano. Mr. Romano is also currently the First Vice Commander for American Legion Post 283 in Pacific Palisades. He honorably served 10 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Romano’s honors and awards include an Award of Valor from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, the Medal of Courage from Santa Monica College, the Award of Merit from CA College & University Police Chiefs Association, the Award of Merit from Santa Monica College, and West Los Angeles Law Enforcement Officer of the Year 2013.
Free parking for this event can be found at Santa Monica College’s Lot 4 at 16th Street and Pico Boulevard. Santa Monica College’s Lot 6 at 14th Street and Pico Boulevard is $5. There will be shuttle service between the parking structures and the cemetery. There is limited street parking.
