ArcLight will open in Santa Monica this month, so will Sidecar Doughnuts. Downtown Santa Monica’s annual attraction, ICE at Santa Monica, opened for the season last night. And on Thursday, you can ride L.A. County’s very first public bike-share system for free.
New Movie Theater Coming to Santa Monica
It has been decades since Santa Monica got a new movie theater in its downtown, but that will change on November 20 when ArcLight opens the doors of its latest project on the third floor of the Santa Monica Place.
For those not familiar with the ArcLight brand, the theaters offer a luxury moviegoing experience, complete with “reserved seating, black-box auditoriums, commercial-free movies, and gourmet cuisine,” according to ArcLight’s website.
Not only that, but the new theater are a five minute walk from the future Downtown Santa Monica Expo station, making it a perfect place to enjoy a movie without having to deal with parking.
ArcLight recently began advertising November 20 the opening day in local media.
Ride Breeze for Free on Opening Day
Santa Monica’s new bike-share system — Breeze — is officially launching on Thursday and, to celebrate, they are offering free rides.
“Join hundreds of supporters on Thursday, November 12th on Main Street in front of Santa Monica City Hall for a celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch Breeze Bike Share presented by Hulu—LA County’s first public bike share system,” Breeze officials said in an email.
“Sign up in advance online or download the app for a FREE 1-Day Pass for Launch Day November 12th. After the ribbon-cutting we roll-out on Breeze Bikes to any Santa Monica location. All participants in the Bike Roll-Out will receive a commemorative Breeze launch T-shirt, sunglasses, and helmet,” the email reads.
“For the Early Birds who are not camera shy! We are looking for 50 people to help us welcome the KTLA Morning Show and CBS This Morning at 6:00 am during their live shots. Everyone who checks in by 6:15 am will be entered in a raffle to win a one-year Breeze Founding Membership,” according to the email.
Sidecar Doughnuts Hits Santa Monica
The Orange County-based doughnut shop is planning a November 17 opening for its Santa Monica location, next door to Mendicino Farms, according to L.A. Eater.
“The sure-to-be-packed Sidecar location sits next to both a Juice Served Here and an inbound Mendocino Farms, but will certainly draw the longest lines of the three. Thankfully interior architects Otto Design Group were prepared, crafting a long space that keeps order to flow while still letting the product shine. Funky tile flooring reflects off of one lone, mirrored wall, giving the place a feel of airiness, while out front some small seating is available from a simple patio,” according to L.A. Eater.
Winter Sports in Downtown Santa Monica
Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. kicked off its annual ICE at Santa Monica attraction Thursday with much fanfare.
The outdoor skating rink will operate through January 18.
“Every holiday season, Downtown Santa Monica brings a little ice skating to the beachside community and transforms the corner of 5th Street and Arizona Avenue into ICE at Santa Monica, a premier outdoor ice skating rink. The 8,000 square foot rink by the beach offers residents and visitors a little taste of winter without the bite,” according to Downtown Santa Monica, Inc.’s website.
