Pier 360 Kicks Off on Thursday with a Really Big Man Pulling a BB E-B

Building momentum ahead of the upcoming weekend “Pier 360” Beach Festival, world-class strongman Martins Licis will put his strength to the test by pulling a 34,680‑pound, 35-feet long, battery electric Big Blue Bus for 30 feet through the Pier parking lot on Thursday, June 26 beginning at 8  a.m.

With Santa Monica Big Blue Bus’s newly branded fleet of zero-emission buses, and a bus driver onboard, the strongman challenge promises an unforgettable display of power, innovation, and spirit—the perfect official kick-off for the festival weekend. The event begins with remarks from Jim HarrisSanta Monica Mayor Lana Negrete, and other VIPs before the dramatic pull, making it a can’t-miss visual that captures the energy of “Pier 360” Santa Monica Strongman Classic contest.

The Santa Monica “Pier 360” Beach Festival, the ultimate celebration of SoCal beach culture, returns June 28-29, 2025, for two epic days of competition, entertainment, and good vibes along the iconic Santa Monica shoreline. The free, all-ages event brings together thousands of locals and visitors for the strongman contest featuring over 80 male and female athletes, ocean sports, beachside games, skateboarding, roller skating, live music, food and drinks, and a deep dive into 90 years of paddleboard racing history. “Pier 360” action kicks off Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m., where festival goers can explore interactive activities, grab bites and brews, and soak up summer energy at one of Southern California’s most legendary destinations.
