Santa Monica Corsair Has Big Night at LA Press Club Banquet

Date:

Congratulations to Aaliyah Sosa and Jackson Tammariello, a pair of Santa Monica College students, for winning first place awards for their work at the Corsair at last night’s Los Angeles Press Club Awards banquet.

Sosa finished first in the “Best Arts Writing” Category for college reporters for her piece “Film Composer Inspires the Next Generation at Cue the Music.” The judges wrote of the piece, “This polished feature by Sosa tells how film composer Harry GregsonWilliams found one of his memorable singers, a boy singing on a street in Dublin.”

Tammariello won in the “Best Personality Profile” category for college reporters for “A Story of Many Lifetimes.” The judge’s wrote of the piece, “Tammariello terrifically profiles a unique outlier, David “Papi” Hunt, who seems too over the top to be real.”

The Corsair also won third place for “Best College News Website” for its design, graphics and other features. Two Corsair photographers, Danilo Perez and Ee Lin Tsen, were also finalists for awards.

Congratulations to all the finalists and Corsair staff for their excellence in journalism. We’ll see you on the beat.
