Santa Monica Police Investigating Alleged Stabbing Downtown

Date:

The police are investigating an argument turned violent that left one person hospitalized after alleged being stabbed this morning in Downtown Santa Monica.

According to Santa Monica Police Department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Saul Rodriguez, officers responded to a call at 5th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard around 7:40 a.m. Thursday.

“Upon officer’s arrival, they located a victim -conscious and breathing, suffering an injury from a stab wound. The victim was treated at the scene by Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics and transported to a local hospital. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition,” Rodriguez wrote in an email to Santa Monica Next Thursday.

“SMPD Detectives responded and are actively working the investigation.  Detectives are reviewing surveillance video of the incident. An initial investigation revealed the victim and suspect got into a verbal argument for unknown reasons. The argument escalates to a physical altercation-fist fight. At some point, the suspect removes a sharp object from his clothing and strikes the victim. The suspect then fled the area,” Rodriguez said.

The suspect is “described as a black male about 50 years old, 6 feet tall, heavy build wearing a white sweatshirt, jeans, and a light grey ‘fedora’ style hat,” officials said.

Rodriguez also noted that anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Detective Leone at (310) 458-8949; or SMPD at (310) 458-8491.
