Friday Night Lights come to John Adams – Free Drop-n Flag Football Every Friday Night All Summer

Date:

Every week Santa Monica Next republishes a story from City Manager Oliver Chi’s newsletter.

There’s a new reason to love Friday nights in Santa Monica!

Our Recreation and Arts Department’s Community Recreation Division has partnered with two outstanding local youth sports organizations – Compete Forever and NFL Flag LA – to launch Summer Friday Night Lights, a free coed flag football program at John Adams Middle School!

The program is open to youth ages 6 to 18, and the program’s innovative design means that anyone who wants to play can do so! There’s no registration, no fees, no try-outs, and no barriers! Families can simply drop in on Friday evenings throughout the summer from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., and you’ll be able to play!

Unlike a traditional league, Friday Night Lights is one hundred percent focused on fun. Teams are mixed up each week for casual pickup games, giving kids the chance to meet new friends, play in a relaxed & inclusive setting, and simply enjoy the game, regardless of age, experience, or skill level. This initiative was launched given the recreational preferences of our kids today, as flag football is one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the country, with girls flag football now an official CIF high school sport! What’s more, the game itself will also make its Olympic debut right here in Los Angeles at the 2028 Games.

For questions about the program, please feel free to contact the Community Recreation Division at communityrecreation@santamonica.gov!
