Public Hearing for 100 Unit Apartment Building at 1320 Pico Scheduled for Thursday

Date:

On Thursday, the city will hold a virtual public hearing for the 100-unit apartment building planned for 1320 Pico Boulevard at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held on zoom, and you can access it by clicking here at the meeting time.

As planned, the proposed project is a pair of 8-story and 4-story apartment buildings totaling 100 residential units, including 16 affordable units, built over 1-level subterranean garage. The project sits along two bus routes, and includes 78 motor vehicle parking spaces including 58 EV or EV ready parking spaces. 168 bicycle spaces (152 long-term and 16 short-term) are also included.

The larger structure is facing Pico, and the smaller structure includes amenities for residents including a pool, a gym and multiple terrace decks.

The building lies close to Santa Monica College, and as the Daily Press notes is a “stone’s throw away” from Corsair Field and will be blocks from the new arts center currently under construction.

For more on the details of the project visit their official website here or you can read their permit application to the city, here.

The building might prove controversial locally, as it’s several stories higher than the buildings that will be its neighbors once construction is finished. However, given the various density bonuses that are available under state law, there doesn’t appear to be anything in the application that could be grounds for appeal.
