OPA: Local Businesses Need Our Support

Date:

Since the fires, local business is down across the board. Some businesses report being down 60-80% over the past month. This can be a crushing blow to small businesses and they need our support now if they are going to survive.

This SMDP podcast is worth a listen on the impact as it interviews multiple Main St. businesses about the impact, Jennifer Taylor (SaMo Economic Development Manager), and Jenny Rush who owns multiple restaurants around town, including Blue Plate Taco, Blue Plate Oysterette, and Divine Vintage Wine Bar.

Here are some easy things we can do to support the community:

  • Go out and eat at a local restaurant and leave an extra tip
  • Order take out from a local restaurant (and think about calling them to place the order instead of using Uber Eats or Doordash so they can save on those fees)
  • Shop at our local shops
  • Instead of getting wine from the supermarket, get it from a local wine shop. Here are some options:
    • Haques Bodega @ 2225 4th St.
    • Surf Liquor and Wine @ 2522 Main St.
    • L&K Market @ 2127 Main St.
    • Esters Wine Shop @ 1314 7th St.
    • Divine Vintage @ 1025 Montana Ave.
    • Wally’s Wine Store @ 214 Wilshire Blvd.
