Local Filmmaker Seeks Funding for Film Showing a Family’s Struggle with Daughter’s Substance Use Disorder

Date:

30-year Santa Monica resident Mark Rosman is seeking funding for his newest film, Keep Coming Back, a story loosely based on Mark and his family’s experience during his daughter’s struggle with substance use disorder. Rosman is not new to filmmaking having directed A Cinderella Story, The Perfect Man and Life Size. You can see Rosman’s full filmography at IMDB, learn more about the film here, or make a donation or investment here.

Through the lens of those who care for loved ones struggling with substance

misuse, Rosman says that the “film uncovers the story of emotional survival and personal transformation.”

“I’ve written and directed numerous movies and TV series but this one is very different

for me because I’ve lived it,” says Rosman.

“Keep Coming Back is my passion project which I hope will be an emotionally involved story, eye opening, and a game changer for parents who are suffering through this difficult journey.”

The film, to be shot in the fall of 2025 in Utah, explores such universal themes as family

bonds and personal growth.  The film demonstrates  how parents, family, or friends involved with those battling substance misuse need to examine how their own behavior can unintentionally worsen a loved one’s struggle. Once the behavior of the people involved with the person misusing substances starts to change, that can often open a space which can lead to change and healing for the person battling addiction.

The main character of the film is a widowed and busy TV director, who sends his drug abusing 17- year-old daughter off to a rehab in the Utah mountains, only to be told he must attend their four-day parent workshop where he finally learns there’s someone else who also needs to change – himself.

“If we had learned this message earlier, that my wife and I had to look at our own role in this family disease, it could have helped so much in our healing journey,” Rosman explains.

“Our daughter now has many years substance free and is thriving.”

The production company has so far raised half of the film’s 2 million dollar budget through investors, Utah State tax credits, and tax deductible donations. They are actively seeking to raise the remaining financing. Anyone interested in supporting the film can go to the film’s website at keepcomingbackfilm.com or donate directly here.
