Featured Event: What Every Snowflake Knows in its Heart

Date:

For this week’s featured event, we encourage our readers to embrace their artistic side for an event at the Santa Monica Museum of Art called “Collaboration is Utopia.”

If you peruse the current exhibitions at the museum, you are bound to be struck by Yutaka Sone and Benjamin Weissman’s What Every Snowflake Knows in its Heart. Featured in the exhibit is a monumental, animatronic ski mountain. Surrounding and supplementing this work are multiple paintings, sculptures, and videos. The exhibit is built around the theme of skiing, but in the process it embraces images of forests, mountains, and nature as a whole.

For one day only, Benjamin Weissman will invite the public into the creative process within this exhibition for a writing workshop and drawing session.

Who: Benjamin Weissman is a Los Angeles-based writer, visual artist, and teacher. He studied post studio art at California Institute of the Arts. He has lectured on and written extensively about art, books, music, skiing, and pornography for a variety of institutions and publications.

What: From the website: “Participants will enjoy a myriad of experiences based on memory, language, fictional invention, and time spent in the great outdoors. Texts will be spontaneously written, exchanged, co-created, and illustrated through a tangential drawing party. Come to write, draw, and collaborate.”

When: Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 8-10 pm

Where: Bergamot Station G1, 2525 Michigan Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90404

You can purchase tickets and RSVP here.
